In the past two years, there has been a great surge of interest in buying property in Turkey. According to Turkish government statistics, British buyers have purchased over twenty one thousand properties on the Aegean coast alone. Back in 2003, Turkey relaxed its laws on foreigners purchasing property to harmonise itself with the European Union, whereby Turkey made an agreement that residents of any country that would allow Turkish citizens to purchase property would in turn be allowed to buy property in Turkey.
This led to buyers from across the world considering Turkey as a place for both holidays and investment. Buyers from France, Britain, Syria and the United States of America have brought their financial power to bear in Turkey’s economy. It’s likely that with at least five years to go before Turkey will enter the European Union, there is still the possibility to purchase property in Turkey at an excellent price and benefit from some dramatic potential for growth. It is worth noting that financial experts are predicting growth of up to twenty five percent and beyond. Aside from the obvious financial benefits, there are also advantages relating to the quality of life in Turkey.
Turkey is a country with a distinct blend of new and old cultures. It’s a place where the deeply spiritual meets the pragmatically secular. However, the blend of cultures does not clash, it flows smoothly like the mountain rivers that converge en route to the Turkish sea. Turkey is also a geographically diverse land from mountains clad with olive trees to sparkling clear oceans by white sandy beaches and bustling modern cities with mosques, minarets and modern conveniences.
Not only is the country of Turkey beautiful, it is also wonderfully temperate. Those of us who live or come from North Western Europe are not accustomed to year round fine weather. Turkey is a large country and has various temperature zones but the areas closest to the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea have the best year round temperatures. Some areas have very little if any rain; other areas have had no rain for two years, welcome news for people from the United Kingdom thinking of purchasing a getaway for holidays throughout the year!
